Cleveland keeps handing opponents extra possessions — and it may cost them in the playoffs

The Cleveland Cavaliers face an issue of basketball fundamentals. The Cavs will not win critical playoff games until they fix the same fundamental problems that hurt them last season: poor free-throw shooting; and allowing too many second-chance opportunities. In their recent loss to Oklahoma City, Cleveland made only 14 free throws and shot 58% from the line, while the Thunder made 21 free throws at 91%. Both teams attempted roughly the same number of free throws, but Oklahoma City capitalized while Cleveland did not.
